Sophia Weidemann began her musical training on the piano at the age of ten. Just five years later, she was accepted as a junior student at the HMDK Stuttgart in the class of Professor Florian Wiek.
Having trained at the HMDK Stuttgart, the mdw in Vienna, and the Jāzeps Vītols Academy in Riga, she completed both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees with top honors.
In 2020, she was admitted to the *Konzertexamen* program—a postgraduate course designed for highly gifted students. Her final examinations included the *Goldberg Variations* and Brahms’s Piano Concerto No. 2; the examining committee awarded her the highest distinction for her interpretation of these two works.
She also received significant artistic guidance from Alfred Brendel, who taught her at the Virtuoso e Belcanto Festival.
She is an award-winner at both national and international competitions, excelling as both a soloist and a chamber musician. In the summer of 2022, she won first prize at the Virtuoso e Belcanto Festival in Italy with her chamber music ensemble, Kyklos Chambers. As a soloist, she won first prizes at the International Alexander Scriabin Competition in Paris (2019) and the Béla Bartók Piano Competition in Vienna (2015).
Furthermore, she has received scholarships from organizations such as Live Music Now and Jeunesses Musicales Germany.
Her debut CD, featuring works by Fanny Hensel, garnered glowing reviews. On this recording, she combines music and the spoken word—a passion that also distinguishes her live performances. The *Augsburger Allgemeine* newspaper noted that Sophia Weidemann plays with such mastery that the music seems to flow directly from her heart into the keys.
She also features in a documentary about Fanny Hensel produced by ARTE. Her second CD, featuring Bach’s *Goldberg Variations*, was released by GENUIN in 2025. The CD was nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award’s "Best of" list. In *Fono Forum*, Ingo Harden writes: Sophia Weidemann surprises. [...] In short: It is hard to imagine the "Goldbergs" being played more perfectly, incisively, and with greater poise than she does.
