The Sixth Annual International Stretto Piano Festival
October 1-31, 2026
2026 is our first year celebrating the manufacturers who are making a difference
by building pianos with narrow piano keys for artists everywhere.
We intend for every subsequent festival year to be even more fruitful, with more and more makers joining this initiative via our concerts!
With each new piano and keyboard manufacturer joining the festival, we include more artists everywhere who play “stretto” narrow keys,
and who now have the opportunity to study, rehearse, and perform with them.
Our concerts were the first global public events where pianists could experience strettos for the first time since 2021.
Fulfilling the function of a showroom before there were showrooms with narrow keys, we always aim to satisfy all pianists,
to give them a choice of piano key-size for concerts and to introduce them to innovative new products.
After every live concert with in-person audiences, we invite audience members to the stage to try narrow-key pianos.
Experience is the tried and true way to communicate the benefits and value that narrow keys offer, and playing concerts is the best way to reach new stretto players in 2026.
We are delighted to announce that AUGUST FÖRSTER will send a 7’3” grand piano with CONVERTIBLE KEYS to New York City in September 2026.
Celebrating August Förster
Our New York artists will have the choice to play one of two keyboards using this piano.
One of the keyboards has a 6.0 stretto keyboard for average-sized and small hands.
The other has a 6.5 conventional keyboard for large hands.
We can switch the keyboards in five minutes.

Brenna Serrenti Wee, Pianist
Brenna Serrenti Wee is a highly regarded pianist, collaborative artist and educator. She holds two Masters’ degrees from the University of Melbourne, with specialisations in Collaborative Pianism and Piano Pedagogy. A versatile pianist, she also studied Jazz Piano performance at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Scholarships from both the Singapore and Australian governments funded her musical studies and her Graduate Diploma in Education.
Having grown up in South-East Asia and lived in many countries, Brenna founded Bridges Collective, a fine art ensemble which facilitates cross-cultural interaction through music-making. As Artistic Director of the ensemble, she was awarded multiple grants and awards from the Australia Council for the Arts, the Victorian Multicultural Commission and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in recognition of the ensemble’s valuable work in bridging cultures. These awards have enabled Brenna to take the ensemble on musical exchanges to Canberra, Melbourne, Singapore and West Malaysia where the ensemble has a well-established artist residency and composition workshop program.
Brenna continues to share the joy of music-making in her work, both in performance and education. She currently holds a position as an accompanist at Monash University, as Deputy Head of Keyboard at Haileybury College and is engaged in regular visits to Singapore and Malaysia as a pianist, associate artist and educator. She is excited to be part of the Stretto Festival and believes that the availability of alternate-sized keyboards will facilitate future generations of young and established pianists with smaller handspans to engage in music-making with ease and confidence.

PROGRAM
Frederic Rzewski (1938–2021)
The People United Will Never Be Defeated! (1975)
36 Variations on the Chilean Song ¡El pueblo unido, jamás será vencido!
Frederic Rzewski: The People United Will Never Be Defeated!
Frederic Rzewski composed The People United Will Never Be Defeated! in 1975, creating one of the monumental works of twentieth-century piano literature. The hour-long cycle consists of thirty-six variations on the Chilean song ¡El pueblo unido, jamás será vencido!, composed by Sergio Ortega and associated with the years surrounding Chile's 1973 military coup. Over time, the melody came to symbolize solidarity and the enduring human desire for dignity and self-determination.
Commissioned for the United States Bicentennial, the work was premiered by Ursula Oppens at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. in 1976. This festival performance takes place fifty years after that premiere.
Rather than presenting a straightforward set of variations, Rzewski transforms the song through an extraordinary range of musical languages - from counterpoint to jazz, minimalism, improvisation, virtuosic display, and moments of profound stillness. The result is a work that continually shifts between the individual and the collective, certainty and doubt, struggle and renewal.
Although rooted in a specific historical moment, the piece has long transcended its original context. Today it is regarded not only as one of the great masterpieces of contemporary piano literature but also as a meditation on resilience, memory, freedom, and the enduring capacity of communities to imagine a different future.
